Joey Porter's Funk Tributes  //  Tributes to the Greatest Funk Artists (Stevie Wonder / Sly Stone / Michael Jackson / Herbie Hancock / The Meters)

Denver, CO based Joey Porter, keyboardist of The Motet & Juno What?! regularly assembles a handpicked collection of the finest players in Portland, Seattle, Denver and San Francisco to pay sonic tribute to Funk, Soul and Fusion artists of the 60’s and 70’s and has cultivated a loyal and passionate following in markets throughout the West.

The maiden voyage of the tribute band was launched several years ago to perform the tunes of groundbreaking funk/jazz masters, Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters. After a string of sold-out shows, it became apparent that the band was not alone in their still-vibrant love of this era, so they formed several other all-star incarnations to deliver the music of The Meters, Sly & The Family Stone, and most recently, the greats Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson which have now become Joey's two most popular tribute acts.

Joey’s collection of players boasts an array of musical affiliations - Joey Porter on keyboards (The Motet, Juno What?!, Rubberneck, Five Fingers of Funk, Porterhouse), Joshua Cliburn on saxophones (Porterhouse, Rubberneck, Intervision), Reinhardt Melz on drums (Gino Vannelli, Randy Porter, Curtis Salgado, Bobby Torres Ensemble), and Dan Scollard on bass (Porterhouse, Thousand Pieces). In response to the conditional needs of the tribute orchestration, the group is accentuated by Jans Ingber on vocals and percussion (The Motet, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Charlie Hunter), Steve Cannon on trumpet (Blow Hard Big Band, Northwest Ray Charles Tribute), Paul Creighton on vocals (The Motet, Intervision) and Jarrod Lawson on vocals and keyboards.
